VDMC welcomes new oncologist, hematologist
Van Diest Medical Center announced this week that Robert Behrens, M.D., an oncologist and hematologist with Mission Cancer + Blood, will begin seeing patients in the VDMC Specialty Clinic this month.
VDMC continues to offer oncology and hematology services in partnership with Mission Cancer + Blood, and will increase the number of oncology clinics offered onsite, beginning in 2025.
Dr. Behrens graduated with distinction from Iowa State University in 1992, earning his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1997. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins University / Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He subsequently completed a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, where he specialized in immunotherapy of cancer, and was protocol chairman of a national breast cancer vaccine trial. Dr. Behrens has been extensively involved in colon, pancreas, and ovarian vaccine trials.
Dr. Behrens has been with Mission Cancer + Blood since 2003. He is expected to begin seeing patients at VDMC December 27, 2024. He and his team will visit VDMC the first and third Fridays of each month to provide services.
