Santa — and a wave of holiday spirit — is coming to town
Webster City will roll out the red and green carpet Saturday for its annual all-day Christmas in the City celebration that begins with an Ugly Sweater Boot Camp and ends with a tree lighting, live nativity and music to soothe the season.
So grab a sweater and get festive, ’cause it’s a holiday.
Here’s the schedule:
Morning festivities:
8 a.m.: Ugly Sweater Boot Camp at Snap Fitness. Entry to this event is free if you are willing to wear an ugly sweater.
8 to 10 a.m.: Breakfast with Santa at Hy-Vee.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Hot chocolate bar at The Cat Hut and cozy up to the feline friends.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Festival of Trees at the Jane Young House, which is opening its door to Christmas with more than 30 music-themed trees.
10 to 11:30 a.m.: Holiday card-making at Legacy Learning Art Studio for a freewill donation.
10 a.m. to noon: Christmas cookie decorating at Kendall Young Library.
Afternoon activities:
Noon to 2 p.m.: Visit Wilson Brewer Park for a jam-packed time of winter fun. The whole family can enjoy the magic of the season and make some unforgettable memories, including:
Wilson Brewer Snapshots with Santa in the log cabin, presented by Platinum Connect.
Warm up with a cozy cup of hot chocolate and enjoy cookies and crafts at Wilson Brewer Park, sponsored by Iowa Central Community College.
Kids’ Corner ornament activity by Hamilton County Development.
Christmas story reading in Harmony Country School.
Nutcracker and vintage nativity display in the Mulberry Center Church.
Tour the Depot Museum.
Also in the afternoon:
At noon, 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.: There will be free guided tastings at Wild Distilling Co. Although there is no charge for this event, tickets are necessary. Register online at https://www.wildcatdistillery.com/home
12:30 to 2 p.m.: Holiday ornament crafting family keepsakes for a freewill donation at Legacy Learning Art Studio.
2 p.m.: Candy Cane Hike through Briggs Woods Park in partnership with Hamilton County Conservation and the Webster City Church of Christ. Meet at the Shelter House No. 2.
2:30 to 4 p.m.: Sock Gnome Workshop at Legacy Learning Art Studio for a freewill donation. Create an heirloom keepsake
Evening festivities:
4 to 7 p.m.: Warm up at the American Legion Post 191 with Chili and Cinnamon Rolls.
5:30 p.m.: Karl Lighted Christmas Parade. Parade participants should line up at 5 p.m. near West Twin Park. Tony Nelson of Wildcat Distilling Co. is this year’s Lighted Parade emcee.
Tree Lighting: Following the parade, the Christmas tree at Availa Plaza will be lit. This is sponsored by Availa Bank.
Glow Stick Giveaways: Sponsored by Crestview and Bannor True Value.
6:30 to 8 p.m.: There will be a Live Nativity at First Congregational United Church of Christ.
7 p.m.: The Webster City Community Chorus will perform a concert at Trinity Lutheran Church. This annual community concert includes handbell selections to ring in Christmas.
