Family STEAM Carnival takes over Kendall Young Library this week
Starting at 5 p.m. today, the Kendall Young Library, located at 1201 Willson Ave., Webster City, will offer hands-on activities for the whole family. Better yet, the festivities take place for the rest of the week.
The library will conduct a Family STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music) Carnival kickoff for this evening, which is an opportunity for everyone — from young children to adults — to “find their voice,” which is the institution’s theme for its Summer Library Program.
According to a recent release, the library will have games, crafts, snacks and books available for all ages. Information on the activities and programs planned for the summer will also be available.
The event will conclude by 7 p.m. this evening.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the carnival will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Along with the carnival, the youth programs will be held throughout the month of May, along with several other events.
The youth programs include the Teen Lounge for sixth graders to high school students (3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., every Tuesday), “Wild Things” for pre-kindergarteners to second graders (3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., every Tuesday), “Fuzzy Ducklings” for children under three years old (10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., every Wednesday), “Hungry Caterpillars” for preschoolers (10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., every Thursday) and “Tween’s Time” for third to fifth graders (3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., every Thursday).
On tap this month at the library will be an Adult DIY class (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., May 9), a family puzzle competition (6 p.m. to 9 p.m., May 12) and the adult book club (1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., May 16), adult bingo (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., May 23).
For special programs, author Sara Broers will hold a presentation highlighting her travels around Iowa from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 24, while a “Lawyers in Libraries: Celebrating Older Iowans” program will take place at 10:30 a.m. on May 30.
Later on this month, the library will be closed on May 27 and May 29 for the Memorial Day weekend.
