Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in one form or another within the United States. The purpose of Mental Health Month is, according to NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness), to help “fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.”
In their upcoming meeting, set for 9 a.m. this morning at the Hamilton County Courthouse, 2300 Superior St., Webster City, Hamilton County Board of Supervisors will join numerous others in proclaiming May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
On Friday, CICS will partner with the Webster City Community School District to bring in the “Destroy Illusions Tour” with Tom Coverly, the Illusionist. Coverly will be speaking to students via assemblies, along with hosting a community show from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Jefferson Gymnasium on the campus of Webster City Middle School, 1101 Des Moines St., Webster City.
It will be hosted in three schools within CICS’ mental health region, as well.
The board will also examine personnel action, along with an agreement with YSS of Hamilton County.
Before adjourning, the supervisors will receive reports from various county officials and other information related to the county.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 23 at the Hamilton County Courthouse.
