— Submitted photos The three winners in the Jones Rock and Dirt B mods class at the White Fox RC Speedway show off their placings and their race cars on Aug. 29. The new race track for remote control cars is located at 402 White Fox Road in Webster City. The speedway will have racing action again on Sunday, starting at noon.

Racing fans have a new venue to enjoy the sport in Webster City, The cars may be a little smaller than those that run at the local half-mile dirt track, but the drivers and spectators are just as enthused about the new track.

White Fox RC Speedway, located at 402 White Fox Road, is designed for electric 1/10th scale remote control cars. The track was the brainchild of Mike Henely of Webster City. A friend of his family got Henely’s son Brayden interested in racing. For Christmas, Henley bought Brayden a remote control truck.

The family started racing at different tracks across the state.

“We started to meet lots of people and make a lot of friends,” Henely said.

What started out as a place for his son to practice, has turned into a speedway open to all who are interested in racing RC cars.

Drivers line up along the track as they maneuver their remote controlled-cars around the dirt track at White Fox RC Speedway. The speedway will host its second day of racing on Sunday.

Henley approached the City of Webster City about the possibility of leasing the land at 402 White Fox Road. The City Council approved the lease Aug. 16, with Henely agreeing to pay the taxes on the property, liability insurance and other costs.

“From that time on, it took us 12 days to build the track, and on the 13th day, we had our first race,” Henely said. The race day was held Aug. 29, with the next session scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 5.

There’s no charge for spectators to watch the racing action, Henely said. Racers will pay a $5 entry fee which helps to pay for the weekly trophies, he said.

The speedway has five classes — Eastside trains and radio controlled 21.5 street stock; Tin Temptations for beginners and youths; Stein Heating and Cooling B Mods; Jones Rock and Dirt A Mods; and Karl Chevrolet of Webster City trucks.

That first day attracted 38 racers from around the area, including drivers from Iowa Falls, Radcliffe, Madrid, Boone, Ames, Eagle Grove and Webster City. Winners in the classes from the Aug. 29 race include:
