Kendall Young Library will observe holiday hours

Kendall Young Library, 1201 Willson Avenue, Webster City, will observe modified hours for the holiday.

From Tuesday, December 31, to Wednesday, January 1, the library will be closed.

Please note that there is no programming from now until January 3.

Kendall Young Library will be hosting a variety of special events throughout January.

The Ruth Suckow Traveling Exhibit — Kendall Young Library is hosting the Ruth Suckow traveling exhibit until January 5. The exhibit, located in the genealogy area, is an educational display about the life and achievements of Ruth Suckow (1892-1960), an Iowa novelist and short story writer, who was nationally prominent in the first six decades of the 20th century. https://www.ruthsuckow.org/ This exhibit is free courtesy of the Ruth Suckow Memorial Association and Humanities Iowa.

Adult board games — Adults (16+) are invited to meet at Kendall Young Library to enjoy an afternoon of board games on Saturday, January 11, from 3 4:30 p.m. There will be a variety of games available, but you are welcome to bring your favorite game.

Free seed giveaway — Kendall Young Library and Nine Square Feet will offer a variety of seeds to assist patrons planning their spring planting. Seed will be available on Saturday, January 25. Make sure to stop in and get seeds while supplies last.

Crochet workshop — Thursday, January 30, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Kendall Young Library will host a crochet workshop. This is a beginner level workshop, but all ages 16+ are invited to come. All supplies will be provided and there is no registration required.

Kendall Young Library will host adult monthly programs

Kendall Young Library will host adult programs throughout the month of January.

Adult Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the January Book Club discussion about “First Lie Wins,” by Ashley Elston. Books are available at the adult checkout if you are interested in participating. The meeting to discuss the book is on Tuesday, January 14, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Adult Evening Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the Adult Evening Book Club discussion on the book “A Ruth Suckow Omnibus” by Ruth Suckow. Books are available at the library. The meeting to discuss the book is on Wednesday, January 15, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Books & Bourbon Silent Book Club — Kendall Young Library is working with Wildcat Distilling Co. to offer patrons a Silent Book Club. Adults are invited to gather at Wildcat Distilling Co. on Thursday, January 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Bring a book, grab a drink, and enjoy an introvert happy hour. This event will be held at Wildcat Distilling Co., 626 Second Street, Webster City, and will be held the third Thursday of each month.

Adult DIY — Kendall Young Library will host an Adult DIY on Tuesday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m. Patrons will have the opportunity to find their creative side with a snowman craft. This event is free and does not require registration.

SPICE Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to add some spice to your life with the KYL Spice of the Month Club. We will be featuring onion powder starting on Friday, January 3. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last. This is a fun way to explore different cultures and flavors. Each month there will be a featured herb or spice. A limited number of kits will be available each month with a small sample, information about the spice, and a couple recipes to try.

Kendall Young Library will host teen events

Kendall Young Library will host a variety of teen events throughout January.

Teen Lounge — Patrons in sixth through 12th grade are invited each Tuesday in January from 3:30 to 5 p.m. There will be special activities, video games, snacks, crafts, board games, and more. This time and place is perfect to hang out with friends and is a come-and-go style event.

Teen Book Club — Teens are invited to be a part of the 2025 Teen Book Club. We will be starting the year by reading “The Cousins” by Karen M. McManus. Books are available at the reference desk starting January 2. We will be meeting on Thursday, January 30, at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the book and hand out the February selection.

Early Out Movies (8-year-olds through 12th grade) — Youth are invited on Wednesday, January 15, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. to watch “Harold and the Purple Crayon.” Popcorn provided.

Homeschool TECH BUILD — Students will have time to work on a Mousetrap Car on Thursday, January 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. where they can build and modify their project. This is designed for youth in third through 12th grade and will be held each month in the teen area.

Kendall Young Library will host children’s events in January.

Tales Around the Town — Kendall Young Library, along with Webster City businesses, will take storytime on the road. Each week families are invited to meet at a designated location, hear a story and experience the host location. January is full of excitement as we visit new places. No registration is required. Just follow the signs.

January 13 — Hamilton County Public Health, 1610 Collins Street Suite 1 — 5:30 p.m.

January 20 — Southfield Wellness Community, 2416 Des Moines Street — 5:30 p.m.

January 27 — Kendall Young Library, 1201 Willson Avenue – 5:30 p.m.

Wild Things (preK-second) will meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in January. This time will offer a variety of stories and activities each week.

Fuzzy Ducklings (under 3 years) will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in January. This parent/child experience is fun for everyone.

Tween’s Time (third to fifth grade) will meet on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in January to explore crafts, STEM, cooking and so much more.
