By Lori Berglund — Daily Freeman-Journal EditorFormer Webster City Police Officer Steve Davis is reported in serious but stable condition following an accident while on duty for the Colorado Springs Police Department Sunday.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that Davis, who is a motorcycle officer, was attempting to make a stop at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by by a Chevy Cobalt.
While Davis did not have his lights on, he reportedly had a green light when he entered the intersection of Platte and Wahsatch avenues in Colorado Springs and was struck by the westbound Cobalt driven by Joseph Haymaker, 45, Larned, Kan.
Witnesses told the Gazette that Davis was thrown from the motorcycle and landed about 100 feet from the vehicle.
"He was flying through the air like a piece of paper," Genifere Bessou told the Gazette.
Davis, 39, underwent surgery Sunday and Monday for his injuries, which reportedly included a fractured pelvis and compound fracture to his left leg.
Colorado Springs Police Lt. David Whitlock said Haymaker faces possible charges of careless driving involving serious injury.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
