BLAIRSBURG — A 4.18 percent salary increase for all classified employees, supervisory employees, and administration at Northeast Hamilton was approved by the school board there when they met for their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening.

Board members disposed of a lengthy agenda during the long meeting, when they also discussed bond issue information, focusing on projected enrollment and property tax implications if the bond issue passes, as reviewed in the recent school newsletter. Also discussed was their meeting with architect Vince Ward concerning the entrance of the new building.

With 2008 commencement scheduled for Sunday, a more immediate item of business for the board was approving 29 seniors for graduation, provided each student meets all of the graduation requirements.

Looking ahead to the next school year, board members reviewed current student fees and lunch/breakfast prices. A comparison with neighboring districts was shared. A recommendation will be made to the board at their June meeting.

In personnel business, the board accepted resignations from Jennifer Cross-Spanish teacher, volleyball coach, assistant play director; Lisa Lyons-Title I reading teacher; Julie Freeman-high school student council sponsor; Kim Schimp-play director; Brennan O'Connor-junior high boys basketball coach; Lanette Willems-fall and winter cheerleading co-sponsor; and Jody Wagner-fall cheerleading co-sponsor.

In a related matter, the board was informed the Spanish position will be offered a signing bonus using Market Factor funds.

A continuing contract will be issued to Brandon Frohwein for the assistant baseball position, where there are 24 students participating.

Information was presented on the Second Chance Reading Program. A recommendation will be made at the June board meeting.

In other action, the board:

• Approved the purchase of a 2004 Chevy Venture van, at a cost of $10,945, using PPEL Fund dollars.

• Approved a list of donations to After Prom, which were greatly appreciated.

• Heard a report from Supt. Woiwood on the recently passed SILO Repeal/Statewide Penny Replacement legislation and the implications for NEH.

• Reviewed a list of summer PPEL projects.

• Was informed of a flu mist clinic being offered to students through Hamilton County Public Health at NEH fall parent-teacher conferences.

• Discussed with Woiwood having the nurse in the building during all recesses. Woiwood will have a recommendation for the board at their June meeting.

• Acknowledge a gift from the Hamilton County Bike and Trail Club. Every NEH third grader was presented with a bicycle helmet and bicycle safety information, made possible due to a grant from Enhance Hamilton County Foundation.
